Seniors: Gateway stuff 5/11

Hi Seniors,

We’ve been making good progress at senior seminar on Wednesdays. For those of you who can’t make it, I hope you’ve been checking in here or with me about where you’re supposed to be.

By now, here’s what you should have done (at least):
1) Settled on a theme for your presentation (a theme is not one word, nor is it the title of a movie or TV show you like)
2) Given me a notecard with the name of four people whose gateways you absolutely cannot miss
3) Looked over and understand the rubric: SeniorGatewayRubric

Also, each of you has been paired with a UPCS staff member to check in with, and you may be asked to go through your presentation with them once between now and Friday, May 19. Here are the student/teacher pairings:

Senior gateways 5/3 – Finding theme

Hi seniors,

Today we kept working through those packets from last week to find a theme. At the end of class today everyone should have been able to say “My gateway is about ________________” or even better, “My gateway is about ________________ but really it’s about ______________.”

Take a look at Agustin’s free write. See how his theme was first about taking his first AP class, but really it became about “turning fear into freedom.”

If you haven’t done your free write, do it immediately. If you have found your theme now it’s time to write out your 7 minute speech. Use the packet to get you started with beginnings, middles and ends. (Ignore the boxes on the last two pages for now.) Gateway planner packet

Seniors – starting your gateways

Hi seniors,

In case you missed senior seminar today or had to leave early, this will get you up to speed. Watch the video, go through the four steps, and next week come to seminar with your story written out – it should only be about a page and a half or so. It’s a rough outline for your gateway presentation. We’ll add the other details later on. Don’t worry about filling out the grids on the last two pages yet.

Hello seniors,

Here are a couple more senior gateway details: tomorrow, arrive at JC 101 at 8:00 to help get the rooms ready, settle in and do any last minute prep you may need to do. The presentations start at 8:30 on the dot. Just like any other day of school you’re expected to stay the whole day. If you’re leaving early for any reason you’ll need to go through the regular dismissal pattern.
